	We are jumping forward to James 5:1-6 (we’ll back up to catch the end of chapter 4 next Sunday). It’s a very hard hitting look at the troubles with wealth. Most scholars think James is describing some wealthy troubles for non-Christians. If that is the case, there’s still much we can learn by seeing and recognizing the heartaches of misusing what God gives us. And, more positively, there are opportunities with financial pressure to better find the path of Jesus and follow Him in it. I think we’ll all be encouraged as we realign with the same attitude of Christ – “Don’t look out for only your own interests, but take an interest in others, too. You must have the same attitude Christ Jesus had.” (Phil 2:4-5)

	Being under pressure is draining. We can all feel the added tension in this covid season. A local sports caster said on the radio this week that everyone he meets in Lubbock seems like they are on the verge of a meltdown. That kind of stress empties our tank and we find ourselves with fewer good graces to hold back our tongues…so we can say some hurtful things. And, if we are not careful we can fall into a habit of criticism, harsh words, and judgmentalism. James 4:11-12 give us a pretty strong word about ending our “speaking evil against each other.” And we’ll mine the same passage for help on having hard conversations when needed. James will give us some clues for how to critique without being critical.

	We continue in our James study combing thru 4:1-10 on Sunday. One of the unhealthy expectations we can have in pressure situations is for people to be our fix and do something to get us out from under our burden. That’s a bad solution and will put stress on people and relationships. We need to look to Jesus in our pressure situations. God wants to draw closer to us during those times. So we need to be praying to God instead of preying on people. When need to wait on Him instead of impatiently running to someone else. God’s help, His grace, is ready to move toward those who are willing to move toward God.

	In pressure situations, words can become the first casualties of our Christ like behavior. When things get tough, our words can get wonky! So we’ll comb through James 3:1-12 for some wisdom on taming our tongue. In particular we will land on the power of blessing. Our mouths were made for blessing and we want to start moving them in that direction. And, since it is Father’s Day we are going to tailor some of our application to encourage dad’s about molding some of their words into blessings. 	This week we’ll explore James 2:14-26, what one theologian calls “the most misunderstood passage in James.” Yikes! This is Scripture with the infamous quote: “faith without works is dead.” Four different times in the scope of this one section of Scripture, James makes a point to say — our faith needs action or its useless, empty, dead. In fact, he questions the legitimacy of our faith IF it’s not supported by actions. So this weekend we’ll look how pressure situations provide us with the opportunity to do some of the things we’ve been talking about doing for a long time and from a safe distance. Ever notice how easy it is to talk up faith to others who are going through stuff??? But it’s another thing when it’s time for us to walk it out in our own tests of life.  May God grace us with wisdom that impacts our faith with bold acts of faith.

	Remarkably God has our study landing in James 2:1-13 this week. His timing is amazing as we study and receive wisdom regarding favoritism and discrimination. 	In Week 1 we will be in James 1:1-8 and talking about asking for wisdom.  Sometimes our first instinct in tests and trials is to question God: where are You…what’s going on?  The Lord invites us to ask Him for wisdom.  His wisdom will give us His insight into what’s happening, revelation of His presence, and direction on what we need to do.  Receiving wisdom will definitely impact how we handle our next time trial/test.
