These are unprecedented times. As we’ve shared in the past, while we plan systematically, we need extra grace in this season as things are constantly changing. On Thursday afternoon, Governor Abbot issued a new statewide Executive Order that generally requires the wearing of masks whenever you leave your home. However, there are a number of exemptions to that general rule, including one directly related to Turning Point. “Any person who is actively providing or obtaining access to religious worship” is exempted, although mask wearing is still “strongly encouraged.”
We are also mindful that Lubbock’s Health Authority, Dr. Ron Cook, has repeatedly stated that the most effective weapon against spreading COVID-19 is a reasonable distancing policy. This is why TPCC has removed well over 120 chairs from our Worship Center, increased spacing between rows, mandated two seats between families, and offers three different worship opportunities each Sunday: 8:30 a.m, 10:00 a.m, and 11:30 a.m. We want families to be safe. Now, please note that masks are available, and you certainly have the liberty and freedom to wear one, but we will not require a mask for entry into Turning Point.
We have been preparing to open children’s ministry this weekend for all our young children. However, in light of the recent measures and current conditions, we are postponing the opening of our elementary areas in Kids Point. Our nursery and preschool will still remain open. Children are welcome to worship with their families in the auditorium.
Please continue to lift us up in your prayers as we lean into the Holy Spirit to give us wisdom and discernment in these trying times.
