A.D. is the last chapter in our BingeWorthy series.  In the remaining three episodes, we will explore the most controversial and the most highly regarded period in Jesus life – His resurrection, ascension and promised return.  These epoch events create the robust urgency that fueled the early church from a minority religious sect to become the most credible and powerful movement ever recorded in history.

The disciples asked Jesus, “When is it going down?  What should we look for to signal the end is near?”  Jesus then begins what theologians call “the Olivet Discourse” the most detailed discussion given in the Bible about the future.  During that message, Jesus outlines a number of signs but falls short of naming the date.  In fact, He says no one knows but the Father.  However, He threw in an important point of reference for the end-times. He said learn a lesson from the fig tree – when it buds you know summer is near.  Then adds “in the same way, when you see all these things, you can know his return is very near.”  This weekend we are going to survey some of revealing lead indicators of Jesus’ return.  Our goal is to land in a place that stirs up readiness, bathes us in humility and settles us with peace.

In episode 2 we address the Ascension of Christ and tackle the questions of “where is Jesus and what is He doing now?”  Many point out that while liturgical churches have traditionally recognized this event, most Evangelical churches breeze past it.  For many the understanding and maturity we can gain from this part of Jesus story is left on the table.  My hope is we can find lots of encouragement by being aware of what Jesus is presently doing on our behalf.  We are going to focus on these three:  ruling in power, leading the church, praying for us.

Each Spring, the church huddles on Easter to rehearse the information and celebrate the historical truth that Jesus is alive.  He was crucified as a sacrifice for humanity’s sin restitution, but he was raised from the dead to verify God’s acceptance of Christ’s payment for our sins.  The resurrection is glorious, awe inspiring, and widely known.  What is less known, is the fact that some other departed people were raised to life on Easter Sunday morning too.  Did you realize Jesus brought some firstfruits out of the grave with Him?  This message explores the lesser known fact that other people were raised to life on Easter.  But why were they brought back, what were they doing on earth again?  The answer behind these overlooked resurrections might create some of the most clear and compelling reasons for making some big personal changes this Easter.

A.D. is the last chapter in our BingeWorthy series.  In the remaining three episodes, we will explore the most controversial and the most highly regarded period in Jesus life – His resurrection, ascension and promised return.  These epoch events create the robust urgency that fueled the early church from a minority religious sect to become the most credible and powerful movement ever recorded in history.
